Gay slang sometimes referred to as gayspeak refers
to language used predominantly among gay men and is also linked to Polari. Slang normally arises
from the need of a particular subculture to create or maintain secrecy, from a want of acceptance
or fear of prejudice, or to describe situations, acts and things not common in the dominant culture.
